The delicate dominance
Of the night sky
Over the land below
~A sweet oppression
These words paint the picture that tells the story, at least to me. I looked out at the night sky and seemed to feel its weight. The enormity of the black expanse offered itself as proof of its incalculable heaviness. The likelihood of miniaturized mountains holding up the massive weight without being crushed into dust and powder is ridiculously small.
And yet that is exactly what I see.
Sitting, resting, gently framing the silhouetted mountain range is this ominous, yet contained, black depth. The night resists the temptation to pass through the earth and leave it pulverized. Though the land cannot push the dark away, the contact they make is delicate and fine.
It is a sweet oppression we witness here as the stars watch and marvel at it all.
